So, we’ve been married now for over a year at this
point- the best year of my life, by the way!
Not actively “trying” to get pregnant, but not necessarily preventing it
because we both knew from the beginning we wanted a few little ones in our
lives. But, after a year and a half, we
start to wonder what’s going on. I go to
my local OB and see the nurse practitioner that day and she says “Well, your
pap is normal, so I’m sure you just have PCOS.”
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. She
gives me some pamphlets, without doing any type of tests for this diagnosis,
and tells me we just need to be patient and keep trying and sometimes it just
takes longer.
After going home and
researching PCOS, I knew immediately that wasn’t what was wrong with me. When people say “listen to your body”, you
really should listen to your body. I knew
this wasn’t the issue. So I took it upon
myself and scheduled an appointment with an endocrinologist to do blood work to
confirm my suspicions. Sure enough, my
hormone levels were fine, and they couldn’t detect anything wrong. Not PCOS.
This endocrinologist recommended we seek a second opinion from an OBGYN
or specialist, maybe in a larger city.
So after a recommendation, I began seeing Dr. Heckman, an OBGYN in
Frisco.
